A vibrant city in Far North Queensland, Cairns needs little introduction. Known for its natural attractions and outdoor activities, Cairns is more than just the gateway to Australia’s iconic Great Barrier Reef. 1. The Great Barrier Reef
Cairns is a popular starting point for tours to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the world’s most famous natural wonders. Take a boat or helicopter tour to explore the coral and marine life, or snorkel to your heart’s content.

2. Daintree Rainforest
At 1,200 square kilometres and over 135 million years old, the Daintree Rainforest is Australia’s largest rainforest, and the oldest in the world! Visitors can take guided walks or river cruises to learn all about the unique flora and fauna found here.

3. Kuranda Scenic Railway
This historic scenic railway offers breathtaking views of the rainforest as it travels between Cairns and Kuranda village. A must before seeking out some handmade gems in a local market! If it takes your fancy, you can also opt to take the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway back to Cairns CBD and glide above the treetop canopies.

4. Butterfly Sanctuary
While you’re up Kuranda way, check out the largest butterfly flight aviary in the Southern Hemisphere! Showcasing over 1,500 butterflies from a variety of species, you can spot electric blue Ulysses, the majestic green and yellow Cairns Birdwing and Monarch butterflies.

4. Cairns Esplanade
A picturesque 2.5 kilometre stretch of foreshore, the Cairns Esplanade is a popular spot for visitors and locals alike. Settle in for a stunning sunset, let the kids cool off for a swim in the Lagoon, or enjoy a BBQ picnic while you watch the locals walk or cycle by.

6. Cairns Botanic Gardens
Look no further for a beautiful showcase of the rich biodiversity of tropical plants in Australia! Here, you can explore the beauty of more native and exotic tropical plants and soak up stunning surrounds.

7. Green Island
Located off the coast, Green Island is a beautiful 6,000 year old tropical island naturaly formed on the surface of the coral reef. It offers a range of activities, from snorkeling, diving, and glass-bottom boat tours to exploring the island’s national park. 

8. GIN!
Of course, we can’t forget some cracking distilleries in the itinerary! First stop is the tasting room at Narrow Tracks, a mere moment from Cairns airport. In the CBD, down a certain red brick laneway, Wolf Lane Distillery also have a Cellar Door and Distillery Bar.
