The concept of a New Year’s Resolution gets a bit lost in the Southern Hemisphere. We’re midway through summer, Christmas is finally done and dusted, Aunties and Uncles are packed away until next year – it’s time to relax, let our hair down and enjoy. Why then would we then decide to create a resolution? Abstaining, curtailing and no-funning? No thanks.
So, our thinking is this; let’s make some New Year’s Challenges instead? We’re going to make these challenges gin-themed because, you know, read the room. But you could really challenge your ‘regular’ G&T; knock yourself out (metaphorically)!
1. TRY A NEW COCKTAIL FROM EVERY GIN BOX YOU RECEIVE
You won’t be disappointed, these are specially curated by the distillery to go with their gin and there’s a variety to cover different tastes and styles.
2. HIT UP YOUR LOCAL
There are now over 350 distilleries across the country, so chances are there’s a local one doing something crafty. If you’re from woop-woop this challenge may not be as easy, but for those who can, schedule a trip to go and watch poetry in motion!
3. HOLIDAY GINS
The challenge to visit a distillery doesn’t have to be limited to your local. If you’re headed on vacation, take a look at your destination for distilleries and bring home a delicious keepsake!
4. ATTEND A MASTERCLASS
Anyone from woop-woop still reading? Hope we didn’t lose you back there, because this one’s great for you. Did you know we host an online masterclass every month with our featured distillery? It’s a great evening of fun and frolics. Put on your sweats (or pyjamas, no judgement here), pour a gin and sit back as the distillery takes you through everything you need to know about their gin.
5. START A GIN COLLECTION
I know I may be preaching to the choir at this point, as I’ve seen some of your ‘gin shelfies’, but hear me out – for those without a gin collection, why not start one? I can see the thinking behind having only one on the go at any one time, and if you like it that way, that’s fine, you do you.
I just want to say there are merits to keeping a third or so of each bottle and starting a collection. That way, when you fancy a gin and tonic you get the fun part of deciding which style and flavour to pick each time. It also makes you the fanciest one at the dinner party when you can sell the nuances of each gin. That’s if you’re willing to share!
