About Mountain Gin

We are proud to bring you December’s Gin of the Month, Mountain Gin, which comes straight from the heart of Mount Macedon and is distilled with captivating, locally foraged fresh botanicals. Not to mention, it received a coveted Gold Medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in its first year of operation. That’s no easy feat!

With its distinctive new-growth pine needles and native Mountain Pepperberry found nearby, climb the mountain with us and rejoice as Mountain Gin transports you to pristine pine forests, snow-capped peaks and dew-scented aromas of soft morning rains, just in time for Christmas.

About the Mountain Distillery

Mountain Gin all came about when Mountain Distilling Company co-founder Michael Harris, a then-beer salesman, paid a fortuitous visit to Mount Towrong Vineyard owner George Cremasco in Mount Macedon. Over a beer or two, their conversation turned to gin, and to their mutual desire to open a distillery in the region. Three years on, and Harris and Cremasco are co-founders of Mountain Distilling Company.

Perched atop Mount Macedon, the humble distillery has gone from strength to strength. Their original gin, Mountain Gin, was released in 2018 and became an instant hit with the locals, thanks to its combination of fragrant pine buds, lemon myrtle, subtle orange oils and pepper, a citrus-y palate, and a lovely juniper and mineral finish, with a lemon verbena aftertaste.

But no one could have foreseen the immediate success it would have at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, one of the world’s most prestigious alcohol competitions. Less than six months after its release, Mountain Gin took home an illustrious Gold Medal, garnering 95 points in the process.

Their journey has been amazing enough already, but the Mountain Distilling Company shows no signs of slowing down. They recently released an American oak barrel aged variety, which shows off a delicate, refined side to their gin, revealing softer characters of vanilla and cinnamon on the palate while maintaining the original character of Mountain Gin.

There are also special Mountain Gin & Tonic cans, which contain 45ml Mountain batch distilled gin, carefully blended with handcrafted low sugar tonic to bring out the orange peel and lemon myrtle and a refreshing dry finish.

From here, Mountain Distilling Company plans to create a wider range of gins combining native botanicals and roots with traditional ingredients. We’re so excited to watch them grow, and see what they do next. Watch this space!

"I was completely taken aback by the pre-mixed cans, they were simply delicious. The distillery has gone above and beyond to provide a truly complementary drink that if given the option, I would pick every time!"
